Si Min's Chingay reflection

In the past, I thought Chingay was just another boring show on television which would hog all the channels. However, when I went to Chingay personally, I perceived Chingay differently. The atmosphere during the celebration was really breathtaking. The interesting floats passed by, leaving me gasping at them. It was simply spectacular. Everybody was performing in harmony and union. There was not a bit of racial discrimination or segregation. I thought deeply. Singapore is indeed a place where racial harmony can take place in. In addition, I only found out that Chingay is parade to celebrate "元宵节", which is the end of Chinese New Year. If I have a chance to go help out or perform in Chingay, I will definitely participate!

Swee Leng's Chingay Reflection

I never thought Chingay would be this fun before I went for it. Earlier, I thought that  Chingay was just people walking along a pathway and we are just audiences seeing them walk past, there's no excitement in it at all. However, it was the polar opposite and there was beautiful fireworks which lasted quite long. There was a variety of floats representing different cultures in Singapore! This made me feel proud to be in Singapore!

Chow Jiun Chyi's Chingay Reflection

I was very happy when I was told we were to go the Chingay. So when I reach the Chingay location, I felt very excited since I have never went for a chingay performance before. The parade had fireworks, illuminated kites, a lot of awesome floats and great performances. I loved the part where the performers "blew" fire although i could also feel the heat. And from that i learned that we Singaporeans should learn to live in harmony with friends of other races. In my opinion, it was beyond my expectations of a wonderful parade.

Zhong Xun's Chingay reflection

I like the way the fireworks light up the sky. I can experience fireworks just above our heads. I took pictures with my camera and have quite a few nice photos of the magnificent fireworks. I feel that Chingay is one of the most exciting, colourful, and fun occasions of Singapore. There are so much to watch, see, experience, and enjoy at this parade. I believe behind that all the glamorous front is countless of hours of hard work and dedication. That is something to be respected and something worth watching. Maybe next time, I would go participate Chingay Parade again not as a audience but as a performer.

Yong Xuan's Chingay Reflection

Before going for the Chingay Parade, I thought it would be extremely boring.  But after that, I realised I was wrong.  I enjoyed a wonderful night that day as we partied all out to the loud music and mass displays of dances and floats.  But what made me have the deepest impression was when I saw people of different races dancing the dance for another race.  For example, I saw plenty of Malay and Indian dancers dancing for the Chinese dance performance.  This showed me the unity in Singapore between each race.  The Malays, Indians and the Chinese worked together to come up with a performance that all of us greatly enjoyed.  The Chingay parade displayed many dances of different races that captivated me.  The mass display of extravagant fireworks was also very beautiful. The floats on display was also very interesting and unique.  Overally, I enjoyed the Chingay Parade a lot and should we have another chance to witness it again, I will be truly willing to do so.

Zhong Xun's reflection

Lesson two: A picture paints a thousand word

This lesson have taught me a very meaningful thing. Our understanding goal was to understand how to gather meaning and thoughts from what I see and importance looking beyond just what is on the surface during reflection. We should not look at the things we see at the first impression, we should look deeper into it, understanding the situation correctly then conclude or react to it. The beggars shown in the pictures, one a young man sitting on the sidewalk with a card board that said his belongings got stolen while another one is lady carrying a baby begging for money. When given the one dollar situation, most of us chose to gave the lady the dollar not the young man. This is because we felt that the lady needed the money more desperately than the young man as she had to raised the baby and the young man is more capable of getting a job. We decided when only looking their aapearance without knowing the truth. After that our teacher told the truth, the lady was part of a syndicate while the young man cart of things really got stolen by someone. After listening, everyone was quite shock and decided to change our decisions. Sometimes we tried to help others without interpreting the problem situation well and most of the time making things worst. Through this lessons, I have gained a lot of knowledge and moral values. Never judge a book by its cover. :)
